Definition of the Art consultant profession
The role of Art Consultant
Muzéo is a company specialising in art consultancy. Its role is to support all interior designers, whatever their project, to create an artistic concept tailored to a particular project, in France or anywhere else in the world.
As such, Art Consultants are the first point of contact for interior designers.
Passionate about art and experts in this market, the Art Consultants support and help Muzéo's clients to make the best decisions in terms of selection, curation, mode of acquisition, choice of media and hanging, and building collections.
The art consultant's mission is to add an artistic and narrative dimension to the environment that he or she helps to create in partnership with the interior architects. He is the voice of the client at Muzéo, ensuring that his project is properly translated and executed. He is the expert who will act as a bridge between the client's needs and desires and the other experts at Muzéo.
The art consultant will therefore draw on the expertise of the creative department, in particular the iconographer (to ensure that the historical and artistic requirements are properly met, but also that the rights are properly negotiated), the curator (so that she can find the perfect work of art for the project) and the graphic designers so that works corresponding to the project can be created to measure. The art consultant will defend and translate the concept created for this unique location (hotel or company). He will also defend each artist and work selected for the good of the project.
The art consultant sets himself multiple objectives, ranging from creating a unique and inspiring place to highlighting the history, environment and personality of the place through works of art, sculptures and decorative objects. As an expert, he decides on the location and importance of each work within the site for the project. Some works of art become the signature of the establishment, brand or company, and serve to arouse emotions that encourage communication and exchange, as in the case of the SLS Miami (photos) in collaboration with Philippe Starck's teams.
By giving spaces an extra soul, art consultancy enriches the decorative dimension by taking a thematic direction. They seek to offer an experience through the prism of art, and to contribute to the well-being of customers and employees. In addition, it responds to the need to unite, bring people together and recreate links between them, and can even contribute to the creation of events.
To achieve these objectives, the art consultant offers a range of solutions, such as defining mission statements for analysing spaces, identifying issues and needs, devising an artistic storytelling, artistic direction and creation, curating works of art and artistic objects, creating customised works, and producing a variety of products designed to create an immersive and emotional environment. In short, art consultants play a key role in creating spaces that are aesthetically pleasing, meaningful and memorable.
Specific nature of the Muzéo business
At Muzéo, art consultancy takes on a special dimension in terms of the global solutions it can offer: a narrative concept in which the client moves through the works of art created by the Muzéo team, a collection of classic or contemporary works of art, the creation of works specially for the project, printed and framed in Muzéo's workshops (anchor text), or wallpaper created to suit the desired ambience.
Muzéo draws on the cutting-edge skills of its various in-house centres of expertise to successfully complete ambitious, high-calibre projects while respecting customer budgets.
It offers its customers a differentiating positioning, helping them to create a unique atmosphere for a particular location. It provides advice and expertise to help find the best solutions.
Challenges and developments
The challenges facing Muzéo's customers
The art consultant is a single point of contact who will be able to translate the need (looking for a classical or contemporary work of art, artists for an art commission, etc.) and go into the subject in detail in order to obtain a result that meets the client's expectations. An art consultant is a trusted partner with a remarkable ability to listen and analyse. The customer can rely entirely on his expertise, his rigour and his deep understanding of his needs. Thanks to this relationship of trust, the customer can bring his project to fruition, while staying within the budget.
The evolution of the Art Consultant profession
Artistic design consultancy is essential, and will become even more so, if we are to make the right choices and not allow ourselves to be carried away by the siren song of AI without respecting the human element, and in particular the artists, who are essential to the successful completion of these projects.
The stakes will be increasingly strategic for customers, as the narratives and meaning of the project become ever more precise and differentiating. Clients will obviously need to differentiate themselves from their competitors and give their establishments a distinctive signature, but they will also need to check that the result meets profitability, productivity and social and environmental objectives.
Art is a vehicle for emotion, openness, discussion and exchange, and is part of an economic and ecological model.
Analyses will need to be increasingly efficient and documented, depending in particular on the customer journey and the desired customer experience. The immersive experience offered by art, through the creation and realisation of artistic journeys, is becoming increasingly important in the world of interior design, whether in the hospitality or tertiary sectors.
The world is turning more and more towards art engineering. The process is already underway, and Muzéo is playing a part in it.
The role of artistic decoration consultancy is taking on vital importance, and this will only grow with time.
The challenges ahead are increasingly strategic for our customers. They will have to distinguish themselves from their competitors by bringing a distinctive signature to their establishments.

Christophe, Art Consultant with Muzéo for 15 years
A landmark project is always the last one where the commitment has been particularly strong and instructive. In this respect, the collaboration with Jean-Philippe Nuel's team on the Negresco SPA is an exceptional example of partnership on a demanding, cutting-edge and extremely rewarding subject.
The Negresco, a veritable flagship in Nice and a symbol of luxury, is much more than just a renowned hotel. It is an essential part of the reputation of this emblematic city on the Côte d'Azur. Throughout its history, it has played host to a host of personalities, many of them linked to the world of art. The establishment is distinguished by its interior spaces dedicated to art, housing an impressive collection of works and masterpieces belonging to the former owner, Jeanne Augier.
The challenge for the SPA was therefore significant, as it had to match the prestige of the establishment and the art collection, while remaining faithful to the modern decorative vision desired by the interior designer, Jean-Philippe Nuel. Our close relationship with the people in charge of the project enabled us to engage in in-depth discussions, questioning expectations in order to find the most appropriate artistic solutions.
Muzéo translated a number of themes, such as the Nice flower market, the famous Promenade des Anglais, the Lascaris palace, elements from mythology, and an emblematic artist with a special history with the city of Nice, into dreamlike images, using Muzéo's graphic designers and iconographer to create large-scale artistic frescoes... The result is an immersive experience that testifies to the fact that the Negresco remains in tune with the times and is evolving thanks to renowned interior designers, while remaining an iconic hotel.
The job in a nutshell: It's a job that involves a passion for art, enriching the design of spaces open to the public while respecting individual and collective issues.
